# AcelleMail vs Mautic

> Canonical HTML: https://acellemail.com/vs/mautic
> Content-Type: text/markdown

Both are self-hosted marketing platforms — AcelleMail is source-available (full source under a paid one-time license), while Mautic is open-source (free). The big differences are scope, complexity, and how much your team has to operate.

## Headline difference

| | **AcelleMail** | **Mautic** |
|---|---|---|
| License | One-time USD 74 (or USD 199 SaaS) | Free, open-source (community edition) |
| Scope | Focused on email marketing + automation | Full marketing-automation suite (email + landing pages + forms + lead scoring + CRM-lite + social + dynamic content + ABM) |
| Onboarding | Hours to deploy, ready to send | Days to deploy + tune; large surface area to learn |
| Maintenance | Single Laravel app, predictable | Symfony app + many modules + plugin marketplace |
| Vendor support | Included for 6 months with license | Community forums; paid options via Acquia (the corporate sponsor) |
| Build vs install | Drag-drop builder + 100+ templates ship | Builder ships but template library is thinner |
| Best for | Teams who want email done fast | Teams who want a full automation suite and have ops budget |

## When Mautic wins

- You need lead scoring, dynamic content per visitor, marketing-CRM integration, landing pages + forms in one tool
- You have a dedicated marketing-ops engineer who can tune Mautic's surface and keep it patched
- You prefer the freedom of zero license cost and accept the operational tax

## When AcelleMail wins

- You want email marketing done well, fast — no CRM, no landing pages, no lead scoring detour
- You want vendor support included
- You want a multi-tenant SaaS mode (Extended License) with Stripe/PayPal/Braintree billing built in — Mautic does not ship this
- You don't want to operate a complex Symfony deployment

## Migration path (Mautic → AcelleMail)

1. Export contacts from Mautic → CSV
2. Install AcelleMail on a new server (or co-host)
3. Import CSV → AcelleMail lists (preserve tags as custom fields if needed)
4. Recreate automations — Mautic "campaigns" map roughly 1:1 to AcelleMail workflows
5. Point your existing SMTP at AcelleMail
6. Run both in parallel for one cycle, then decommission Mautic

If you also want lead scoring + CRM-lite, the migration is more complex — Mautic may be the better long-term fit.
